Community Learning Session: Sashiko Mending
Walking Lightly will be hosting monthly educational workshops to learn (and play) about living life more sustainably. Stay tuned for what's next & let's learn together!
Join us Sunday October 13th 9-11:30am for a fun and hands-on Sashiko mending class with local expert, Angela Zachary, where we’ll dive into the art of repairing denim with style and purpose! As the slow fashion movement gains momentum, this workshop invites you to embrace sustainability while giving your beloved jeans a second life.
In this class, you’ll learn:
- A Journey Through Time: Discover the rich history of Sashiko and Boro, where necessity meets beauty.
- Denim Decisions: Get tips on choosing the right denim for your project—stretch or no stretch, that is the question!
- Placement Perfection: Explore the best spots for mending, whether it's a knee or inner thigh, and how it impacts your design.
- Style It Your Way: Play with style choices, from inner or outer patches to various stitch options that reflect your personality.
- Stitch It Up: Master basic stitching techniques to transform your repairs into works of art.
- Thread Matters: Learn about thread options that not only enhance durability but also add flair to your patches.
- Technique Triumphs: Gain hands-on experience with Sashiko techniques that will empower you to mend with confidence!
No experience is required—just bring your creativity and a pair of jeans in need of some love! Join us in this celebration of sustainability and creativity, and let's make mending the new trend!
