Powerful purification. Kishu Binchotan in its purest form. Binchotan charcoal is regarded as the purest and most effective type of activated charcoal and is revered for its purifying ability. These sticks are made from 100% ubame oak and are exactly as they were when removed from the ancient kilns in which they are made. The high temperatures firing and short cooling times - done by dousing the new charcoal with ash - result in beautiful, glass-like branches of binchotan. When added to a carafe of water, the thousands of microscopic cavities left in the wood effortlessly remove unwanted toxins and impurities, while softening and improving water's taste. Completely natural, the sticks are great for the garden and can be broken up and disposed of in soil once they start to diminish in efficacy (about 3 months). Materials: Charcoal made from ubame oak Dimensions: Each bag includes an assortment of 4 charcoal pieces of roughly the same size, typically 5" long and 1" wide.
Step 1: The charcoal may be dusty when you take it out of the packaging. Give it a light rinse and brush off any excess ash.
Step 2: Transfer the charcoal to a pot of water and boil for 10 minutes. Drain the water and allow charcoal to cool completely.
Step 3: Fill your favorite container or bottle with water and place the cool charcoal inside. During this time the charcoal will adsorb the impurities in the water. For best results, let charcoal work its magic for at least 2-3 hours before drinking. The longer, the better!
Step 4: Feel free to leave the charcoal in the container and refill water as necessary. The charcoal will continue to work for 2 to 3 weeks until it needs to be reactivated. Reboiling the stick helps keep the exterior pores open, allowing for continuous use as a filter.
Step 5: Reactivating the charcoal is simple. Boil it for 10 minutes, let it cool, and it's ready to go! Can be reactivated for up to 6 months. Afterwards, use charcoal as a deodorizer in your fridge, add to your compost or garden.
